The Spa Bridlington 2nd & 3rd July 2010

The Flipside Rock 'n' Roll Summer Weekender 2010

2nd & 3rd July

At The Spa Bridlington

In aid of 'When you wish upon a Star'

The Spa Bridlington has a fantastic, newly refurbished 1930s ballroom that boasts a fabulous stage, large dance floor and great up- market facilities. Whilst we would have loved a larger turn out, we were not in any way disappointed by the slightly lower numbers of rock 'n' rollers who attended, because we realized - too late for us unfortunately -that the date we booked clashed with other events, mainly the ever popular Pakefield weekend.

People who had travelled from as far and wide as Scotland, Newcastle and our friends from the West Riding had a real treat, and everyone who couldn't make it missed a brilliant weekend. The first night was kicked off by DJ Keith who got us nicely warmed up ready for The Black Cadillacs. The lads gave a superb performance and kept all thoroughly entertained with their repertoire of great jivers, strollers and boppers. As always a lively, entertaining group especially when they invited all the ladies with flashing tambourines to join them on the stage.

The weather in Bridlington was wonderfully hot and sunny - real holiday weather, which all added to the weekend break atmosphere. On Saturday afternoon Rick and Di of Flipside Rock 'n' Roll danced in the town dressed in Teddy boy and girl gear, and assisted by Linda and DJ Keith, did a collection for 'When you wish upon a Star'.

On the Saturday evening we all returned to the Spa, along with many new comers who had been unable to make it on the Friday. It was the turn of guest DJ Krazy Ken from Newcastle to start the night off. He played a brilliant selection of rock 'n' roll and rockabilly music and really got the atmosphere going ready to welcome Rockin' the Joint. Again it was a fabulous night and Rockin' the Joint from Bournmouth certainly had a strong rhythm, which really made you want to get up on the dance floor. A thoroughly entertaining band with the bass player standing on the edge of his instrument at various times during their performance. No one wanted them to come off stage, insisting on at least two encores.

The weekend was all about raising money for the charity 'When you wish upon a Star-  Dream making for seriously ill Children' and between us we raised £283.33 for them. Thank you to everyone who attended, donated and bought raffle tickets to help us raise this amount - hope to see you all next year.

P.s. Don't forget our next weekender at the Grand Hotel, Scarborough 1st & 2nd October.
